Immunohistochemistry Analysis of P53 and Ki-67 Proteins in Oral Lichen Planus and Normal Oral Mucosa

چکیده
Background: Oral lichen planus (OLP) is a relatively common chronic inflammatory muco-cutaneous disease classified among the potentially malignant lesions of oral mucosa. In this study we evaluated tissue expression of p53، ki-67 in OLP compared to normal oral mucosa. Methods: Specimens (formalin-fixed and paraffinembedded) of 44 lesions of OLP and 30 controls referred to immunohistochemistry (IHC) analysis for p53 and ki-67. Results of immunohistochemistry were statistically evaluated by means of KolmogorovSmirnov, KruskalWallis and t-test. The level of statistical significance was established at P< 0.05. Results: This study included 44 patients with OLP (27 females and 17 males) and 30 subjects as control group (18 females and 12 males). The mean expression of p53 in patients with OLP was greater than subjects in control group. The mean expression of ki67 in patients with OLP was more than people in control group. These differences were statistically significant (P= 0.001). Conclusion: Since p53 and ki-67 extensively accepted as important biomarkers in diagnosis, prognosis and treatment of malignant and premalignant lesions, therefore high degree of presence of these biomarkers in chronic premalignant lesion like OLP can be a great helpful in its prognosis and suggested treatments.

Immunohistochemical analysis of Ki-67 expression in oral lichen planus lesions
Introdouction: Lichen planus is a chronic, relatively common, dermal mucosa disease. The World Health Organization (WHO) has introduced lichen planus as a premalignant condition. Ki-67 is a protein that can be detected in all active phases of the cell cycle, especially in the G2 and M phases. Considering the major role of Ki-67 in the regulation of the cell cycle and the fact that it is one of ...
متن کاملEstimation of malignant transformation rate in cases of oral epithelial dysplasia and lichen planus using immunohistochemical expression of Ki-67, p53, BCL-2, and BAX markers
BACKGROUND The issue of a possible malignant transformation in the lesions like epithelial dysplasia and oral lichen planus (OLP) is a matter of serious controversy. The purpose of this study was to suggest the malignant transformation rate in OLP and oral epithelial dysplasia (OED) by using immunohistochemical expression of the tumor markers Ki-67, p53, BCL-2, and BAX. MATERIALS AND METHODS ...
متن کاملVCAM1 and ICAM1 expression in oral lichen planus
Oral lichen planus is a chronic inflammatory immune-mediated disease. ICAM-1 and VCAM-1 are vascular adhesion molecules that their receptors are located on endothelial cells and leukocytes. The aim of this study is the immunohistochemical evaluation of VCAM1 and ICAM1 in oral lichen planus and to compare these two markers with normal mucosa for evaluation of angiogenesis. This descriptive-analy...
متن کاملComparative Study of Expression of Smad3 in Oral Lichen Planus and Normal Oral Mucosa
Oral lichen planus (OLP) is a chronic inflammatory disease of the oral mucosa which is considered by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a premalignant condition. One step in malignant development is so called epithelial mesenchymal transition (EMT), a process whereby epithelial cells acquire mesenchymal characteristics. A factor known to induce EMT is the transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β...
متن کاملVascular Endothelial Growth Factor Expression in Oral Lichen Planus: A Comparative Study
Background and aim: Lichen planus (LP) is a chronic inflammatory disease with an uncertain pathogenicity. Recent reports have revealed that angiogenesis is effective in the pathogenesis and biologic behavior of lesions. Considering the limitations of the studies related to angiogenesis in oral LP (OLP) and the controversial results, the present study aimed to compare the expression of vascular ...
